Bringing creativity to any organization is difficult. This is especially true in the social sector where the opportunities for impact are unparalleled, constraints are unique and ever-changing, and more traditional approaches to creativity and the design process must often be re-imagined. This immersion course, informed by the work of The Innovation Lab at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, will demonstrate how human-centered design has been – and can be – used to foster creativity while managing opportunities and risks of a unique scale and nature. This course is a fast-paced, project-based learning experience that focuses on critical thinking, problem solving, and data analysis. You will:
Understand how you can use human-centered design practices in your daily work.
  • Discover how to break down complex problems to understand their root causes.
  • Learn how root causes impact the people we serve.
  • Understand why human behavior might inform potential solutions.
  • Apply rapid prototyping to learn about and develop potential solutions to complex challenges.
  • Learn how The Lab brings together a combination of private sector fellows and public servants who work collaboratively on complex cross-sector challenges to design based on the needs of those they serve.
NOTE: SPACE IS LIMITED; BE SURE TO SELECT A MAIN TRACK COURSE DURING YOUR REGISTRATION.
